My Facebook photography page took over my blog. What a shame! :0 I would love to be able to post more, but in all honestly, photography has been set aside a little bit since we started our journey as missionaries. I still enjoy photography and have been taking lots of pictures! (lots of my little man as well :) ) During deputation we've been able to visit so many amazing places! And I determined to take a good family picture of each new cool place we visit! It hasn't been easy... but I'm thankful for digital cameras, tripods, and self-timers :D It's made these family pictures possible! So here is one I would like to share that reflects our lives lately: our car, beautiful landscape, and our son's favorite toy when we make stops during our trips :)

This has been an amazing year of deputation. We've met wonderful families, missionaries, pastors and their families... and we've had so many people commit to pray for us. Reaching Spain with the Gospel could not be done without the power of God. So all these prayers are going to make a huge impact in what we will accomplish in Spain. And we're so thankful having so many people be a part of seeing souls saved through just praying for us! We really are thankful for all the prayer support we have!

We've also learned a lot during this year, and are looking forward to learn more and more about the ministry, God, and how to serve Him and please Him better! I've been gathering lots of ideas for the ministry and activities! We are so looking forward to starting the church :) I've also found great books that have tremendously helped me spiritually. Right now I'm reading: "Teaching more than English," which is being a great resource for the English classes we will be offering. A couple of other book I recommend you to read are: "A Meek and Quiet Spirit" and "Healing Love." And "It's a wonderful life" by Terry Chappell.

The West is beautiful! I love the city, that's where I came from. But there is nothing like seeing a beautiful landscape and seeing what a perfect creation it is, and knowing that God made it :) The Grand Canyon was simply beautiful!

One thing I'm enjoying is seeing how God shows us His love in even little details. Nate had been so excited about seeing elk in Arizona. He kept looking everywhere and praying he would see elk. I started praying as well, and that day, God showed us a few of them :) Over and over again God reminds us that He is with us and that He loves us. Something I read yesterday as I was worrying about something (as I tend to do often...): "Faith is not believing that God can, but knowing that God will." It brightened my day, and I immediately started to feel better. Then He used a friend on Facebook to speak on his status about worrying. He said that prayer and worry cannot go together. God knew my need, and He gave me what I needed to relieve that burden :D

And yes... I rambled, as I tend to do too :) But I have so much to be thankful for, and God has been so good to us, and has showing His power in our lives in so many ways so many times! I can't praise Him enough for it.

A couple of weeks ago, we went to the Portland headlight. I had never seen it before! I had been wanting some family pictures there, and we have friends that live close to it. So we asked them if they could take some pictures of us, and we could also take some pictures of them :) Of course, I love taking pictures of couples, specially if they are our friends! So I'm always happy when they allow me to take pictures for them!!!

They did a great job! The pictures turned out great! They were patient with us and would retake any picture if needed (my baby was not cooperating that day hehe) Here are some of the pictures we took of them :)

The day started off with bad news, but we stayed on the positive side. We had a fantastic time with them. We ate at the Lobster Shack, took pictures, tried some yummy cupcakes from East End cupcakes, and walked around Old Port. We saw the biggest cruise I've ever seen there. It was a great day, and I'm so thankful for such great friends like they are! They are being a blessing and encouragement to us :)

Sorry I'm being the worst blogger on earth...But like I've mentioned before, I post pictures and update my status on Facebook more often. So make sure you follow us there!

My little ministry :) - Downtown Athens Photography

I know I have mentioned this before on my Facebook page. I know...I barely use my blog, but I think Facebook updates on my photography page took over my blogging time! Photography is something I love and enjoy doing, whether it's for clients, for myself, for family, or just to be a blessing to somebody else. I have noticed since we started deputation, that my little photography business is turning into a little ministry. It's still part business, but I'm loving what it is becoming! I have had the privilege to photograph many missionary and pastor's families, and I am just so happy to be a part of their future memories, even if it just means being the woman that recorded their memories in pictures :)

This is another missionary family I've been able to photograph! They are pros! This was their 3rd session with us, and they absolutely knew what to do. It made my job easy :D I love their style, and I love seeing them play and laugh together! And what I like the most: they are going to be serving God in Spain! Ministering to my people! God is going to bless them greatly for being such faithful servants of Him, and surrendering to His calling. I can't wait to see what God is going to do in their lives and how He is going to use them for His glory!

Here is a sneak peek of their session! There was a car show going on at downtown Athens! So it was nice for a couple of romantic shots :) And to top it off: some sunset pictures right before the sun is going away :) Enjoy them!!!! Senior season! We are starting with a beautiful senior girl :)

Who doesn;t like a little bit of variety right? At this session we were able to go to 5 locations! And she had perfect outfits for all of them! We found a very old thrift store made of barnwood that made really unique settings. We found a little field perfect for some cowgirl shots. We stopped at a bridge on the way to downtown Madison. And of course, downtowns are my favorite¡ We finished our session with some dressy elegant images in the middle of the street :) Oh, and a truck! Something new to me! But I can´t wait to edit those! The good thing of seniors? They always know how to pose :) It makes my job so easy! And they always know what to wear! So the session was easy and fun! And having my seniors`moms come to the session always help! More than what you think! Specially when the photographer forgets a very expensive lens by the railroad... oops!

I cannot wait to post more!!! And I´m really sorry if I´m rambling a lot! I have a handsome one year old pulling my skirt and fussing cause he wants some attention :) and I can´t say no to that little face! hehe

The most beautiful girls ever :)

Here is a part of what we do on deputation! We are loving every part of our deputation journey (maybe except the long drives... but it's getting better!). We get to share our burden for Spain, we get to meet wonderful people, we get to encourage people to be a part of missions, we get to serve God in different ways, we get to visit new places, and sometimes we get to do pictures for pastor's families and in this case, the youth pastor's family. :) Being a missionary is the best! And I am so thankful for the many blessing and the wonderful experiences God is allowing us to have!

Taking pictures of a big family is always a challenge. Getting everybody to look at the camera at the same time is always an almost impossible task. Somebody either blinks, or looks somewhere else, or cries...here, the very first pictures I took were a pose of the whole family. And they all looked at the camera! And that makes it all so much better! These kids did great allowing me to take their pictures, specially after I took out the big lollypop :) I didn't know it would help so much! But even before, they did so good! If you are a photographer, don't tell me you would not looooove to photograph these kids with these beautiful eyes :) I got to take many close ups where their eyes just pop! Beautiful bright eyes. I'll post them some other time, but here is a sneak peek for now!

A few pictures of the senior photo session I took yesterday and today! I don't take pictures of many guy seniors, so it is always a challenge for me!!! Specially if Nate can't come with me! But I enjoyed it and we were able to take a loooot of pictures! I love them all! He was so calm and posed so well! :)

Oh, and the first time I take cap and gown pictures outdoors!!!! :)

Huntsville Baby, Children, and Senior Photography

Textures is something I have never really been interested in when dealing with post-processing. I must say, I like colorful real images with a little touch of vintage, and I don't like to overdo post-processing. When I saw other photographers edit their images with textures, I loved the results, but it just was not my cup of tea...till I heard about the Florabella textures. Once again, I really wasn't interested in textures! But then I watched a video tutorial where she taught how to apply these textures. I would see a straight out of the camera shot and the after result with just textures and a couple of basic touches (saturation, contrast...). I could not believe what a difference it made! Then we shot a wedding in February where we had a limited time for all the family, bride and groom, and wedding party shots. It was dark, and we couldn't go anywhere due to the lack of time. So we really didn't have many backgrounds to play with, even though the church itself was great! I must say...it wasn't as hard as I thought and we were able to capture some great shots of them together, just being sweet to each other, happy and joyful that they were married, and looking forward to living their lives as a married couple! And honestly, just working with a just married couple makes photography a whole different world! Once I saw them together, the backgrounds didn't matter any more! I realized it wasn't about the backgrounds. I just had to capture their love! And once I found these textures, I decided to play around with them and try to add a little bit more of creativity to the images and make the backgrounds a little but more interesting! I love the results. Maybe a overdid it a little??? Yes, I probably did :) But it's ok! I'm enjoying just playing around with them!

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank this couple, their friends, and their family for all their help taking these pictures! We had a blast! And it was an honor to take them! She is Nate's pastor's daughter! Such a sweet godly family :)

Erin Rachel: Photography session in Tuscumbia, AL

After years of talking Erin Rachel over e-mail, Facebook, etc... I finally met her this month on our way back from a trip to Bay St Loius! (Looove being a missionary). She treated us to shrimp po-boys (wow, I want more so bad!), and we talked and talked! She told me she was coming to Alabama in a week, and she would be willing to do a family session for us! All my family sessions are either taken with the tripod and self-timer, or asking a family member to shoot for us and I prepare the shot. So being able to have a photographer taking our pictures, and just relax and enjoy was great!!!! And she does such a great job!!! She kept the session fun, flowing, and I just had a great time!!!! And afterwards, I was able to take some pictures of her! :) She is beautiful! Look at her eyes! There is many more to come!

I can honestly say that this has been one of my favorite weddings :) The colors, the decoration, the buttonniers, the bouquet, the cake (multi layered), the red velvet cupcakes... everything was done with a very exquisite taste. My favorite part at every wedding is the bride and groom portraits :D That love, joy, excitement that they have after saying the "I do" really shows in the images! This couple specially was the cutest couple ever! And they love each other sooo much! I LOVE THAT! And I love to see them enjoy getting their pictures taken as newlyweds!

Found the perfect field!

Last Monday, we spent the day in Knoxville with my sister-in-law. She had been wanting us to take some pictures of her co-worker and her girls for a while, but it seems like every time we go to Knoxville, we have super tight time. But finally, we made it! And I'm so glad we did! I had been wanting to use a field for pictures but I never found the perfect field. Well, right in front of her house, here it is! It was great! The girls were so good and the mom and girls did great at posing and interacting to capture some candids! I hope you enjoy them!

Last week we headed to Maine to take pictures of Nate´s pastor´s daughter´s wedding. It was a winter theme wedding with a lot of lights and white trees. They also had a lighthouse theme reception :) They both love lighthouses and something important happened in their relationship at a lighthouse! I love it when couples use things they have in common for their weddings! We were also able to bring some Dunkin Donuts coffee cups to use as props!

Due to the cold and the light, we had to take the pictures inside the church building. It was something I was worried about, but it ended up turning out great! I prayed really hard and prepared and brainstormed a lot the 2 nights before :) God blessed!

They were one of the cutest couples I´ve seen! I loved seeing them interact. Honestly, they were too cute! I cant wait to see them again!

Also, while in Maine, we were able to share our burden for Spain at the church. At every meeting we have, our burden and desire to go to Spain increases. We cannot wait to go to Spain! We have so many plans and ideas to start a church there! The church in Maine was a huge blessing to us! We are truly thankful for all the words of encouragement, prayers, and everything! God is blessing us in a tremendous way!

And here is another handsome boy! And the pose that I've been trying to do for the past 4 sessions! It ended up not being as hard as I thought. I was just not doing it right :) But I was so pleased with the results in this image!

This baby was so good too! I had been praying that the session would be easy and the baby would be calm and happy :) And this baby just let me pose him too without barely any complain. Such a sweet handsome boy! The parents helped me sooooo much, and let me tell you, having grandma there is really helpful too! She was a blessing to me!

I am enjoying a lot taking pictures of babies. I'm not going to lie, but certain poses become a little hard and challenging. But once they work and the baby stays in that position, the result is totally worth it! The images just end up beautiful and so calm looking! Not beautiful because of the photographer, beautiful because of the subject :)

The most fun thing about baby pictures is how you can get all the props together and build the picture, the scenery, everything. And if done well, it can be a beautiful work of art! That's what I'm aiming to do :) I'm hoping to be able to get more practice and better props, and be able to make photographs a work of art!

This baby let us pose him without barely complaining! And it also helped having his parents help me for all the poses! I am so thankful to have such amazing clients! God is blessing us in a great way!

And because everybody has new year resolutions...

I thought I didn't and I am one of those people that think that resolutions have to be done at the moment, not waiting for the new year to come. But as the new year came, I realized of many of the things I had been wanting to change. Some of them I started to do before the new year, some of them I'm starting to do now. A few of my new year resolutions:

- Spend more time spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ

- Spend more time in prayer and Bible reading. This I do every day, but I feel like I never do it enough

- Spend more time relaxing with my family

- Be the best mom and wife I can be

- Stop rushing at everything I do and worrying about little things: God is in control

- Practice piano a few times a week till I can master playing hymns

- Get better at taking newborn pictures

- Start working out (this might include buying the wii fit hehe)

- Sewing! I have the hardest time finding the clothes I want. I picture outfits in my head and I never find them anywhere lol So this should help!

This was one of the cutest couples ever! For real :) I loved it when I would tell them to pose and I didn't have to really change anything. They were natural and had the happiest smiles! There is just something about the joy of being engaged and so close to getting married! And it just shows on the pictures! My favorite part: when I told them to just pretend they were talking on the phone, they knew exactly how to pose and pull it off! So cute!

IPhone calls, texting, love letters...all this played a big part in their relationship since they lived in different states at the beginning. I cant wait to take their wedding pictures! :D They are such a sweet couple!

What I have been doing

Here are some of the pictures I have not been able to post before due to Internet issues. Believe it or not, not having Internet messes up all my workflow! But we got it back! After weeks and weeks waiting for responses from the Internet company and not getting anything in response...

November was one of the busiest months I've had! But I truly enjoyed taking pictures of all these amazing clients God has brought to us :) It has been a blessing! One of the things I loved is that many of our customers were booking their sessions as a Christmas gift for their moms! I also was able to take pictures of a birthday party beautifully planned and decorated! I enjoyed taking pictures of the little details and highlights of that day!

December was not as busy, but I appreciated having the time to relax and enjoy the season, and more importantly, to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the reason for Christmas!

We moved to a different place and are now planning our missionary journey! We are so excited to start visiting churches and sharing the burden that God has given us for the country of Spain! And we cannot wait to move there and start spreading the Gospel, the only way God has designed for us to have eternal life :)

I honestly had a blast taking these pictures! All my seniors are just amazing! We were able to visit a couple of places and the very last one was Burrit on the Mountain. It had beautiful spots to photograph! I cant wait to go back!

This time I had my friend Damaris come with me to take care of my baby. She made him laugh so hard! Nate wasn't able to come, so I honestly almost lost my head somewhere. I'm so used to having him with me during photoshoots that I kept forgetting my lens, my keys, my phone...at each spot I took a picture lol But thanks to Bekah's mom (who was a wonderful assistant) I made it! She kept making me laugh and she was such a blessing to us!

And don't ask Bekah how I made her laugh for the pictures. She will probably say that I made her laugh by command...not sure if that really happened (or maybe it did hehe).

I hope you enjoy these images! She was so natural at posing that most of the time I didn't even need to tell her what to do. She just looked that good standing in front of the camera :)

I remember when Nate and I were looking for a wedding photographer. One of the things that really wowed us was the magazine style books. We thought it was the most amazing wedding product ever. Now as photographers, we have seen all kind of albums that we love and would love to have for our wedding pictures. But this, a coffee table book, still remains special. I spent hours designing this one and was looking forward to seeing the results. And here it is! A 10x10 coffee table book with a custom hard cover. Our past 5 months

Wow, it's been a long time since I have posted anything personal! It has been a wonderful 5 months being a mommy! An I am looking forward to enjoying many many more! Sure some parts have been tough...but God has blessed us with such a wonderful and good baby, that the tough parts have been veeeeery few :) We have a smily, happy little boy that loooves to look around, see people, see colors, play with mommy and daddy... I just love him!

I had to put my photography aside for a little while! I honestly didn't find the time to do anything but I finally organized my days better where I can get everything done and get free time to just play with him! :) And I am very excited to see that our fall calendar is filling up! I'm working on new products and offers that I will be posting about soon!

This last contest has been my favorite! I once realized that since God had blessed us with the ability to take pictures, we should use it to help others too! Also, when I was little, I looooved contests and always tried to participate to win something. Unfortunately, the winning part didn't work so well for me lol but I still enjoy seeing other people winning! and even more giving others the opportunity to win! All these questions that were asked were awesome! It was fun answering all your emails and please, if you have any other question you would like for me to answer (even when there is no contest), let me know and I can write a blog post about it :)

One of my photography dreams has been for a while to have my own photography workshop...I don't see it happening anytime soon though! But helping others in photography is something I truly enjoy! Although I need to be helped too in many areas!

Today is saturday! Family time, shopping, movie...I'm looking forward to it! On my shopping list: candy for my family in Spain, picture printing, and sippy cups lol

F.A.Q. Poses

How do y'all get so many great ideas with locations and how the people pose? Are they more your ideas or do the people in the pictures give their opinions?

I love cities, so usually I will find downtown (in whatever city we are at) and walk around a lot! its helpful to be there a day before or an hour before and check out the location. It helps get ideas and poses so when you get there with the clients, you know what you want, and the session will flow :)

For couples' poses: before I started the business, I used to check a looooot of photography websites from David Jay, Jasmine Star, and other famous photographers for inspiration. I would look at a lot of wedding magazines too just to get inspired. I would think about a session and then write down or even draw poses that I had in my head so I wouldnt forget and I would bring the paper with me to the session and review it on the way to the session.

I always pose them the way I like or the way I think would go well with the background, couple...and then tell them to feel comfortable with each other. If they feel awkward in that pose, it's gonna be noticeable in the picture. So if they feel comfortable, they will look more natural in the pictures, which is what I am looking for. I usually choose a pose, have them look at me for the first shot and smile, and then have them interact with each other and just take a lot of pictures while they are having fun with each other, talking, or just looking at each other. As I take pictures, I move around and try different angles of each pose.

Look for walls or just play with the depth of field. A head-shot at a 1.8 aperture will have a very blurry background and make the subject pop! And if there are some colors in the back it can help a lot!

F.A.Q. Lenses

What lenses would you recommend investing in?

It all depends on your budget. I loooove the 50mm 1.4 and I use it 90% of the time. It's sharp and lets you take pictures in low light situations :) But if you can afford it, go the 28-80 mm 2.8 or the 50mm 1.2! The 50mm 1.2 is my dream lens right now :)

Can you explain about the aperture setting and how it effects the the picture?

(Explained as good as I can with my limited knowledge of the English language lol)

The aperture means that the smaller the number the more it opens, the more light comes in the camera. So 1.4 would have a more open aperture than 5.6. If it is a darker day, you might need to shoot at 1.8 or so (so more light would come in the camera). If it's lighter outside, you don't need to open the aperture as much and you can shoot at 3.5 or higher. I always shoot at 2.2. or so anyways unless it's too dark and I need to bring it to 1.4. But most of the time I try to keep it at 2.2 and just play with the speed and the ISO so I can keep the picture at 2.2 with no under or overexposures :) I love blurriness around the subject!

The more you open it, the smaller the focal point (like how much you can focus in the picture). This means that at 1.4 you could do a head shot where only the eyes are focused and sharp and the rest soft and blurry. If you took that picture at 11, the whole face would be sharp and the background would be too. Does that make sense?

Just remember, aperture, speed and ISO are related. So for a perfect exposure and for a perfect picture, you need to play with the 3 of them depending on the circumstances :)

A before and after post!

I love before and after posts! But I haven't been very inspired lately in posting. I spent one week with no Internet, one week substituting a lady on vacation at an office, and one week of VBS and Bible Conference. That took most of my day and I wasn't able to post much and couldn't think what to post about... But I've been editing a lot these last days and I've realized how important post-processing is in photography. I try to shoot as perfect as possible so the pictures will not need much editing (just contrast and voila!), but sometimes I like adding some effects! I looove blue skies and found the perfect picture to use for this post!

Just remember! I am not the best at editing and probably could make things better. But these are my results from what I 've learned these couple of years! I hope it can help you!

I used a wide angle and shot this pictures while laying on the ground (I'm known as the photographer that always lays on the ground lol). I used my 28mm 1.8 (affordable and efficient!). If you have one or are thinking about buying it, just remember to shoot at 2.8 or higher for sharper images :)

I edited it in Lightroom. I added some fill light to make their faces lighter without making the sky lighter. I played with the luminance for blues (brought the slider down to the left), and added some contrast. Then I added a vignette.

Then in Photoshop, I used a sharpening action. There are many good sharpening actions out there that bring amazing results! I looooove them! I dont use them all the time, but I love the effect of them in certain pictures, specially this one!

One more time, we headed downtown to take the maternity pictures of Mayra. I met Mayra the first semester I came to the US (when I didn't know much English, but thankfully she speaks Spanish lol). Her mom and dad are good friends of ours and I've enjoyed that friendship a lot! God has blessed Mayra's mom in a great way and it has been amazing to see His hand work in her life and her family's!

Mayra was a teenager when I met her and now she has turned into a beautiful woman expecting her first bundle of joy. I can't wait to meet that baby girl! She came along with her sister Suheidy who was a great help to us! She helped me make sure Mayra's hair was looking good, held the reflector for me the times that Nate couldn't, etc. We had a really good time with them and really can't wait to edit the rest of the pictures!!!!!

Yes, we are a super happy loving family and I could kiss my baby the whole time I spend with him! lol He is being such a blessing and joy to our lives! I love waking up to his smily face, I love hearing him giggle when he looks at the little toy bugs hanging from the handle of his car seat, I love hearing him play and giggle with daddy, and I love hearing him trying to talk and tell us stories. And even though he has crazy hair, I love it too and think it´s the cutest crazy hair ever :) And yes, I need a little mommy make over, lol some more pounds less, some hair style change, some shopping....(we were doing a cook-out on Memorial Day, so ignore my hair) ...but ohhh what a joy is to be a mommy!!!!

Ana Belen at 3 weeks old

My beautiful cousin (or second cousin...) at 3 weeks! She is just such a beautiful baby girl! She did great till she decided I had messed around too much with her, lol but I can't believe how much she allowed me to do during the session as far as poses :) The toughest part was getting her brother Sergio to pose with her! He kept wanting to kiss her and wouldn't just pose and smile, lol It was so sweet! :D Sergio is the funniest little boy I've ever seen and at such a young age (1 year old) he is saying a lot of words, including Ana Belen's name! Btw, Ana Belen has one of those pacifiers that you can stick your finger in... I love it! I can't wait to see Ana Belen again and mess around with her paci, lol

We haven't seen them in about 3 weeks and I miss them!

My new life

So everybody says that when you have a baby your life changes. And guess what? It's true! If you have a baby, you know that! But what some people don't tell you is that it changes for better! While being pregnant I've heard so many people say comments like: oh yeah, you'd better sleep now cause you are not gonna get any sleep when the baby comes! but it's worth it... or things like, take as many naps as you can and do all you can cause when the baby is here, you won't have time to do anything!.... I heard many good comments, and many negative comments. But despite all that, I was sure however my life would change, would be an amazing and wonderful change! And it has been! I knew it because what God gives us is always for the best! It was within God's plans!

Nate and I decided that it was better for me to stay home to raise and take care of our baby. So that's what I do and truly enjoy! God has blessed us with a handsome, smart little boy, and he has made our lives so much happier! He has already established his own routine. He sleeps almost all night, he barely cries, he smiles all the time, he loves looking around, he takes naps at the same time every day, he has his eating pattern and eats so good! God has really blessed us greatly! And I do get a lot of time of sleep, because we get to take naps at the same time! We really have a lot of fun together!

He is now 7 weeks and he just does the cutest things! For real, I don't say this just because he is my son, hehe He is just that awesome, and of course, our best model! Check this out!

We have been receiving blessings and more blessings for the past few weeks! One of them is Nate's graduation! Yayyyy, he is graduating in May and he will be done with college! He loves studying so he is probably going to end up taking more courses in the future, but for now, he is done with college. And do you know what that means? It means that we can start to embark on one of the most important journeys of our life: MISSIONS! I am sooo excited about it and I can't wait! God is our first priority and all we do we want to do for His glory and honor. You might wonder: what about photography? We believe God has blessed us with photography in a great way and we want to bless others with it! We are planning to continue to do more photo sessions. But like I have said before, our calling is missions and serving God, so that will be our first priority! We will still enjoy taking pictures and blessing others with our photography, and we hope we can continue to do so :)

Thank God, my mother in law, my mom and my sister were able to come see Alex and us these last few weeks! My mother in law came for a few days before and after our baby's birth and was a huge blessing to us! She helped us so much!!!!! And helped us get everything ready for our baby's arrival! There were so many things I hadn't thought about that our baby would need.... so she made sure we had everything he would need and everything ready for him! My sister only came for one week, and she was a real blessing and helped me so much during the hardest week, which is when I was recovering. I wish I had been able to go out with her more since it was her first visit to the US... but I hope she can come back soon!!!! My mom stayed a little longer and has been a huuuuuge blessing too! She has been cooking, cleaning, helping me with the baby and doing so much for us! It has been a hard recovery and I am still trying to get better! And God has blessed me with wonderful people willing to help me during all this! I'm so thankful for them!!!

Yesterday, I took my mom out to take some pictures of her! She has always been a beautiful woman, so I'm proud to show her off :) Here are some pics!!!!

Trying to fix it...

I remember before I got pregnant and pretty much all my life, I would think: goodness, pregnant women are so beautiful and so cute! I can't wait to be pregnant! I honestly didn't understand why pregnant women felt fat at all! I thought that baby bump was the cutest thing ever! Now, fast forward to these past two weeks, all I can say is....I'm so big!!!! I love my baby boy, how he moves, the cute things he does, having a belly, being pregnant, etc etc It's being a wonderful pregnancy. But! I honestly feel big, specially when I saw how our maternity session turned out... I just felt .... really big, so I thought: well, I love the pics, but that outfit makes me look fatter...we might as well take some more pictures with a different outfit so people see I'm really not that big...So here you go, my attempt to fix it (attempt hee hee), but yes, my belly is huge, although I love it! I keep being stopped at every store I go to and all I hear is: you're having twins aren't you? or... man! you are big! or... you're having a boy right? cause you are huge! lol

It really doesn't offend me :) It just makes me proud of my little boy! And I can't wait to see my baby boy and find out if he is just going to be a cute little chubby boy like his mommy was, or if he is just a loooong boy like his daddy (or if there really are two in here!!!) Two weeks to gooooo!!! Wohooooo!!!!!

We're so looking forward to meeting this precious little boy! Aaron and Mallery are good friends of ours. They are missionaries to Brazil! And Mallery and I found out we were expecting about the same time when we were working together! We are due only two days apart!!!!!! So it has been really fun to get together and just talk about babies and pregnancies!

Yesterday we went downtown Athens to try something different...and I love how cute their pics turned out! Of course, because they did an amazing job interacting and posing! It was great working with them!!!!

First maternity session of the year! We met Susan and Rich, a couple from our church that are expecting their first baby soon, and went downtown for a maternity photo session last saturday! It was freeeeezing! I'm not gonna lie! But they did an amazing job and it was great to work with them :) They look so natural! Can't wait to meet their baby!

Praying for Joel

Please, join us in prayer for little Joel and the Smith family. You might remember them from our very first newborn session. He is an 18 month old boy who is going through some serious testing. But to hear a better explanation, you should check their blog.

They are a great missionary family that love the Lord and want to serve Him with all their lives. They are being an amazing testimony and example, putting all their faith and trust in God, who can do miracles in our lives and who has the best plans for us! We know that God is going to bless them greatly! He will bless their patience, faith, and faithfulness. And little Joel is being so great going through this surgery, testing, hospital stay, etc. We truly admire them and hope the best for them. We have God on our side, and that's the best support we can ever have :)

Life is so great!

What an awesome Christmas break we've had! We are finally moved into our new home! And we love it so much! The furniture is arranged, the pictures hung up, the kitchen organized, etc etc... and it feels like home since even before we organized the house! We just love it here! And we are finally enjoying some free time for rest and to enjoy one another, something that we were needing! It's been a very refreshing time and a time to organize our schedules better and prioritize the things in our lives! We know God is the very center of our lives and want to keep living that way! We're loving being involved in church and God is blessing our lives so much! And we are enjoying every ministry we are a part of! We are also finding ways to enjoy what God is blessing us with and spending more time of rest or just quality time me and Nate :) It just feels great!

Today Nate started his college classes and I started teaching Spanish, which I truly enjoyed! God blessed the class greatly and I'm looking forward to more classes!

And of course, we're also looking forward to future photo sessions that we have scheduled! It is getting cold! But hey, it's never too cold for pictures! At least for me :)

Our baby is getting aaaaactive! More each day! He just won't stop! lol It just makes me laugh! We can't wait to meet him and having him as a part of our lives, something he already is (but of course actually having him with us outside the belly will be different and so fun!).

So here is just a little update about us! :) We figured we would let you know since we haven't been able to post much!

Merry Christmas!!!!!! We hope you have a wonderful time!!!! We sure will! A few days of rest and just spending time with family always feels great! And this is my favorite time of the year! I'm so looking forward to this time of rest, egg nog, Christmas music, time with my husband...Plus, we're moved into our new places and we love it! We absolutely love it and I'm loving putting all the things away and making it look all pretty! Although the part of Nate not letting me pick up or move anything...he doesn't want me and baby to get hurt :)

Our baby boy is getting pretty active! He must love Christmas too like his mommy!

But now I'm off to watch Fireproof with my wonderful husband! I love him more everyday and I pray I can be the best wife to me as he is the best husband I could ever have!

Have a wonderful Christmas!!!! And don't forget the whole purpose of this season! The birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The best gift we could ever have. A show of God's love toward us to provide the only way for us to have eternal life in heaven. A gift we can only have by accepting Him and putting our faith and trust in Him: Jesus Christ!

So I'm spending a long time sitting in the car these last two days, and since I don't drive, that's giving me the opportunity to blog more! And there was something I mentioned I would start doing more often! FAQ posts!!!!! Remember, if there is any subject you would like us to talk about on these posts, email us! We'll be glad to help you!!!! Here you go!

What are your favorite camera settings when shooting a regular portrait session?

This will vary on the weather circumstances. But as a general thing, we love shooting with the lowest ISO we can. If it's 100, then awesome! If it's 400, then great too! We try not to go above 400 to avoid camera noise, even though the 5D works really well with high ISO and the 5D mark ii is even better!

We try to keep our speed no lower than 1/250 unless extremely necessary, and try to keep an aperture of 2.2 or so. We use a 50mm 1.4, so that means that at 1.4 it won't be the sharpest (even though this lens works great at 1.4) because it's the widest aperture allowed in that lens. If the lens were a 1.8 maximum aperture, then we would shoot at 2.8 or so. So keeping our aperture at 2.2 and speed at 1/250, we just move the ISO to lower or higher depending on the light. If we end up having a very dark day, then we might have to end up bringing the speed down a little or the aperture! I hope this all makes sense!!!!! We love the effect of using a very open aperture, because it just focuses on the eyes and softens the rest. And since we work with interacting subjects (couples, children, families...) we like keeping the speed as fast as we can to ensure there won't be any blur.

What kind of lighting do you use?

Honestly, there is nothing like natural light. I think I've mentioned this before! But to me there is no better light than that! It's the light that our God has created, and it is just soft, natural, and beautiful! So we try to use natural light as much as possible, work with reflectors and find the best light when we get to a location. We do use a Canon 580 EXII for ceremony and reception shots at weddings. We need to in order to avoid using a high ISO or a low speed ,and to avoid too many shadows on the subjects' faces (my pet peeve). To be honest, I've used off camera lighting in the past when I was starting and worked as a photographer assistant. We would light the subject with one flash and the background with another flash. Pocket wizards are great for that and you can do amazing effects with it! But to me, that just means more distractions during the ceremony or reception. We want our subjects to enjoy their day and not overwhelm them. We want to capture their natural expressions and just how they are being themselves and enjoying their time! So to me, the more complicated I make it, the less natural results I will obtain. My Gary Fong works great for these shots and gives me satisfying results! Of course, this doesn't apply to all photographers and there are amazing photographers out there using all kinds of lighting and obtaining amazing results. So you just need to find what you like and how you like to work!

God answers prayers

So just wanting to share with you that God does answer prayers and proofs Himself to us! We're not trying to show how cool our story is, but we want to show you the glory and power of God! Last night, driving to North Carolina, we got into a town where a big storm had happened and the more we drove into it, the worse it was getting. The power and phone signal were gone, so it was dark, full of snow, and trees were fallen all over the road. Too late to turn around, too far from a city and a hotel, and having no clue where we were. We couldn't call anybody, the internet connection wasn't working either! So right when I started to get worried, our car slid to the side of the road, leaving us right on the edge of the road where a few centimeters would have thrown us down a 10 foot bank into a river. So here you go, a 7 month pregnant lady and her hubby sitting right on the edge of this bank and praying for God's wisdom. Once we realized about the bank down there, we got out and just prayed and prayed and prayed. No lights, no phone signal, and a bunch of snow! So we decided to walk on the side of the road to find the nearest house and used our phones as lights! And guess what? not even 5 minutes after, a family with a big truck happened to pass by us because they were going from their house to somebody else's house, and stopped to help us! With a chain hooked to both cars they got us out! And we believe God sent them as an answer to our prayer, cause there were no cars driving around! And not only He sent us a family to help us, He sent us a plowing truck to drive in front of us and plow the road so we could get to the nearest hotel! So, not only God answers our prayers, He gives us way more in abundance! Wrapped in my favorite blanket, I didn't feel the cold, baby was good and cozy in my belly, and everything worked out!

God is so good! We don't even deserve it!!!! :)

This is what happens when a family just has fun during the photo shoot! It is not us and our pictures, it's them and their feelings! There were so many images I wanted to share with you... actually I ended up with 200 edited final pictures because I couldn't decide which ones to post! They all were so cute with all of them laughing and enjoying each other! I think families are becoming one of my favorite things to take pictures of :)
